The Partner visa (subclass 820 and 801) is a two-stage visa that allows the spouse or de facto partner of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to live in Australia. You apply for the temporary and permanent partner visas together.

Temporary stage (820):
75% of applications: 18 months
90% of applications: 32 months
Permanent stage (801):
75% of applications: 5 months
90% of applications: 12 months
If your relationship breaks down due to domestic violence, you may still be eligible for the permanent visa. Special consideration is given to these cases.
