482 TEMPORARY SKILL SHORTAGE

The 482 visa is a temporary work visa that allows skilled workers to work for an approved employer in Australia for up to four years.

Work rights: The 482 visa allows you to work in Australia for your approved employer in your nominated occupation.
Dependent family members: May be able to include dependent family members in your visa application, who will have work and study rights in Australia.
Opportunity for permanent residency: Pathway to permanent residency through the 186 or 491 visas, depending on your circumstances and eligibility.
Travel: Travel in and out of Australia as often as you like while the visa is valid.
Flexibility: The 482 visa offers some flexibility, as you can change your employer, occupation or work location within certain restrictions.

The Immigration Department fees for a 482 visa are:

Short-term stream:

$1455 for the main applicant

$1455 for an additional applicant over 18

$365 for an additional applicant under 18

Medium-term stream:

$3035 for the main applicant

$3035 for an additional applicant over 18

$760 for an additional applicant under 18

'Must be nominated by an Australian employer who holds a valid Standard Business Sponsorship (SBS) or has lodged an application for an SBS.
Occupation must be on the relevant skilled occupation list.
Have a positive skill assessment from the relevant assessing authority for your occupation.
Meet the English language requirements.
Meet health and character requirements specified by the Australian government.
Have relevant work experience in your nominated occupation.
Must be offered a salary that meets the minimum requirements specified by the Australian government.
Arrange overseas health insurance.
Conduct a health check.
Obtain an Australian police check.

The 186 visa allows skilled workers, who are nominated by their employer, live and work in Australia permanently

Permanent residency: Permanent residency in Australia, allows you to live and work in the country.
Work rights: Allows you to work in any occupation and for any employer in Australia.
Study rights: Access to education and training in Australia.
Social Security benefits: May be eligible for social security benefits, such as unemployment benefits or family assistance payments.
Sponsor family members: Can sponsor eligible family members to join you in Australia.
Pathway to citizenship: May be eligible to apply for Australian citizenship in the near future, which will give you the right to vote, work for the government, and receive an Australian passport.
Access to healthcare: Entitled to access the country's public healthcare system, Medicare.
Travel: Travel in and out of Australia as often as you like while the visa is valid.

$4640 for the main applicant

$2320 for an additional applicant over 18

$1160 for an additional applicant under 18

Complete an Expression of Interest and be invited to apply by a state or territory government in Australia.
Have an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupation list for the state or territory that has nominated you.
Obtain a positive skill assessment from the relevant assessing authority for your occupation.
Meet English language requirements.
Arrange overseas health insurance.
Conduct a health check.
Obtain an Australian police check.
Be under the age of 45 at the time of invitation to apply.
Score at least 65 points on the points test.
